Drawing Pedagogy

Drawing Pedagogy continues to be a subject of much reflection. A number of the students on the MA Drawing are in, or aspire to be in, educational roles. All students are encouraged to develop their relationship to research, with some students progressing through to PHD level.

The MA Drawing is an opportunity to reflect and develop approaches to drawing pedagogy with increasing urgency, as in UK primary and secondary education the teaching of drawing is being reduced.

In 2009 Simon Betts co-authored, with Kelly Chorpening and Prof Stephen Farthing in designing and writing the UALAB Drawing Certificate/Award Course. This course centered on the purpose and Trans-Disciplinarity of drawing as a common language, and generated discussion as to how drawing could be taught in Schools, Sixth Form Centers and Foundation Courses.
